NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHER IN WEST BERKSHIRE

Your Newborn Photography Session - What to Expect

Reading Basingstoke Newbury Tadley Windsor London Chiswick Chelsea

SESSION

I would be absolutely honoured if you choose me as your newborn photographer and thrilled to be able to capture the first days of your sweet little one! Newborn sessions are held in my studio in Aldermaston Reading RG7 4LH West Berkshire and are typically 3 - 4 hrs long to ensure that there is plenty of time for feeding, soothing and changing your baby. I only book one client per day so your session is not rushed and baby has all the feeds and cuddles he/she needs.

WHEN TO BOOK

The best time to book your session is just after your 12 week scan or a little bit later if you wish. Once you've booked I will pencil your due date in my diary. Please do not worry about your baby being early or late as I will reserve some time before and after your due date to ensure plenty of availability for you. Newborn sessions are best within the first 14 days of baby’s life (5-10 days ideally) therefore it's SUPER important that you contact me within 48 hours after your baby's birth so I can plan and make myself available for you.

BOOKING LATE

If you missed on booking early please still contact me as soon as you possibly can since due to some babies being late or early I might have last minute availability. Although it is not my usual preference I could still take babies up to 12 weeks old to make sure that you do not miss on your memories. However, you should be open minded about more wrapped, awake and less posed shots in case your little one does not like to sleep a lot due to their older age.

FAQ

Can I choose the colours and styling?

Closer to the shoot date you will receive a short form and a prep guide for your session and we will discuss your colour choice and image preferences.

Please look through my work on my website so you can see if my style matches what you are after for your session. I only shoot to my own styling and keep it to my own workflow to ensure the session is smooth and that the baby is safe and happy. If you wish anything else to be included in your session this is best discussed in advance so I can let you know if/how we could introduce it in your session.
Please note that these are posed newborn sessions. If you are after a relaxed unposed lifestyle newborn session this shall be communicated and agreed before the session.

Is my baby in safe hands?

Safe newborn photography practice and the comfort of the baby is a number one priority! Dream Artsy is an insured and experienced photographer, also trains other photographers safe newborn posing and photography and is a registered member of BANPAS, GUILD and SWPP.

It is natural to feel worried especially if you are a first time parent. We are happy to answer any questions you might have so please do not hesitate to contact us for a quick chat - we will be happy to help.

Can I bring a younger sibling?

Of course you can! However if you have a newborn baby and are considering a newborn shoot with the sibling the best age for siblings is from 3 years up as before then they hardly understand what you are trying to achieve from them and do not always perform. We will of course offer treats and other bribes and do our best but as this is a newborn session we unfortunately will not be able to concentrate on a toddler instead of a newborn as we need to insure that the newborn is safe and comfortable and that the session is kept at its normal workflow. Please bare this in mind when booking and do not expect your younger little one to perform their best to avoid disappointment - they have just had a new little human join the family and might find it alone hard enough to adjust to.

Please also kindly note that I usually work during the weekdays (school hours) with all sessions happening in the first part of the day so I may not be able to work around older siblings' nursery/nap/school times. Newborn images are once in a lifetime and for years to cherish. I therefore ask for your flexibility with work and school times when comiting to a newborn session.

Do I need to bring anything?

Absolutely not! We have plenty of cute newborn outfits and props to choose from. We only ask that you bring some extra milk if baby is bottle fed, few extra nappies and a dummy if you use one.

Are the outfits cleaned between the clients?

Of course! We always end up with a pile of washing after the session. Anything what has been used or touched gets washed. If the outfit or heaband is sensitive and can't be washed than we use special baby safe sanitisers and/or steamers to get the item cleaned. The hard surface props are wiped or sprayed and are left to air for at least 24-48 hours between the babies.

Can we include other images?

Please note that you will need to choose a different package as an extra if you want to combine a solo Baby Milestones, Family, Sibling, Cake smash, Baby bath, Maternity, headshot or any other images that are not newborn related.

Where will the session take place?

All newborn sessions are held in my studio in Aldermaston, RG7 4LH. It is a calm rural area and has plenty of parking. We have a separate entrance and you can park right in front of the door. There is water, tea, coffee and some snacks available throughout the session but please feel free to bring a small lunch if you need. We also have a fridge if baby's milk needs to be kept cool.

How long will the session take?

Newborn photo session usually takes 3-4 hours. This includes feeding, cuddles, changing of the baby and soothing back to sleep. We only book one session a day so there is no rush or stress to feed and to settle the little one when needed. However please do not plan anything else for that day as if the baby is very unsettled we may need some extra time in order to achieve a full gallery.

Can we bring other people with us?

The studio is hot for baby's comfort and the session is long and boring. We also need to focus on baby's safety and your beautiful gallery. For these reasons only the people whose pictures will be taken on the day are allowed to the studio.

Due to covid restrictions we only allow 2 adults per baby to stay during the session (which would be either baby's parents or one of the parents and a second adult from the same household).

It is also strongly advised that the siblings come for the time of their images only and leave with a partner or grandparent.

How do I prepare before my session?

You will be sent a prep guide some time before your session with tips and advice.

Do you allow pets in the studio?

Absolutely not.

We adore them but babies and pets from different households do not always mix well so we'd rather take extra precautions than not to.

Is your studio covid safe?

Absolutely!

We have a separate entrance so you don't meet other people on the way.
We work based on appointments only and have a low volume of visitors.

The studio is deep cleaned and sanitised between each client. We also book with 24-48 hours between the clients to let the studio air in between the sessions.
We ask that all client's wear masks where applicable (if not exempt and when your pictures are not being taken).

We have always sanitised a lot and had a no shoe policy in the studio so as before you will be provided with disposable slippers or shoe covers upon arrival. We ask that you keep your distance, avoid touching your face, surfaces and limit your moving around the studio as much as possible.
